They are nice. I own three if you ever want to borrow them. Two are nice, one is more on the cheap side. With the CPAP machine I don't get to use them much, but my stepson is really getting into Scouting and it is SO nice to not have to purchase all the gear.

I might take you up on that. I sort of don't want to buy one until I use one and know what I like. I have done so much canoe camping that I have never used an internal frame pack. This hike is only two days so even if I hated it, it wouldn't be so bad.

The trick is all the small adjustments to make the straps ride where they belong. After helping over a hundred boys figure it out, I have a pretty good handle on it.

I prefer the external frame packs. One, it gives some space between your back and the pack so it gives better ventilation. Two, it gives you something to tie other things to if you have the need.

If you have done a lot of canoe camping, then I bet you have a lot of the other stuff already. But I also have foam sleeping pads and all sorts of backpacking gear. I even have inflatable serving bowls. LOL!

I sold my pack stove years ago and I never did get my own water filter.
