I am just going to tell you this right now.

1. They didn't find Noah's Ark

2. The Shroud of Turin is nothing more than a really interesting work of art from 14th century.

I am pretty tolerant about most things but I have a pretty short fuse when it comes to items like this since I try to explain to people why it is highly unlikely that the Shroud is genuine or that someone found the Ark. And yes, I am an atheist but it doesn't mean I didn't spend 4 years of college and 2 years of graduate work studying the Catholic church.

Sorry, sometimes facebook gets to me

...but 93% of people won't believe you!

LOL

Exactly, they will just go along thinking the ark was found and then will be shocked in a few years when it is "found" around.

Wait... people think those things?...

I guess there is VIDEO

I am so skeptical.

And yes, I had a bunch of people on my facebook thinking it was possible.

See I grew up in a theocracy, and I remember them teaching us the whole Noah's Ark thing when I was in like 2nd grade, where the bible says it landed on Mount Ararat. And the teacher actually said that some people claimed to have found it up there, but that that makes ZERO sense.

Yeesh.

People can claim anything they want, I want them to publish their findings in a peer reviewed journal and have them verified.

Ararat is on the priority list for the Hidden Anatolia trip! Your cash dollars are paying for me to get in there before the government locks it up. It's already starting to become a Christian pilgrimage-tourism thing, so I want to jump the queue and get photos and video before the nonsense gets out of hand.

That would be awesome. Part of why I wanted to go to Turkey was to go over to Ararat because it has a cool history, however, I didn't know it was that big of a Christian pilgrimage thing.

Logic would dictate that after the flood subsided Noah and his family would have torn the arc apart because it was the only source of cut timber to build their houses with.

It still makes me sad the the unicorns, dragons, and elves were all left behind do to design inadequacies which didn't allow space for two of every animal as requested in the original project scope. See, Noah was the original inventor of the Agile process. He got the ark done on time, but it didn't have all the functionality originally intended. By the time the second ark iteration could be made, it was too late and some of the animal data was lost in the cut over of Earth version three.

I like the part where they used CARBON FUCKING DATING to claim it is 6000 years old.

Zach pointed out that creationists don't usually believe that carbon dating is valid.

Argh, my head is going to explode. This is why I don't get in the middle of this stuff.

Exactly. This is like how people argue it's somehow better not to prove God's existence, but you know damn well if there was proof, they would put it up on Fox News.

They're just idiots, Bertine. Not worth the frustration. But I know where you're coming from. The Catholic apologists are angering me with their defensive logic.

I spent 6 years of my life trying to find a good arguement that would convince people to judge this sort of thing on facts and after that amount of time I just gave up. I should have just ignored it but it annoys me so.

I don't get why they need proof. I thought the point of faith was having it without proof!

That's just what they say... when they don't have proof.

Yeah, really the stance is that if it disagrees with the bible it's wrong but if it agrees with the bible, it's probably scientifically valid.

Most Christians probably aren't equipped to gauge the validity of science by any other standard.

how could a boat several thousands of years old ever have survived to present day? Wood does not last that long, people.

Clearly, it's a test from God

There might be shards of wood around, which is what come up in the past but I doubt there would be rooms and whole sections of the the boat left.

Look, there is a video:

Hey! I've got chunks of The One True Ark in my garage! Anybody want a chunk? $150 each!

There is a pile of wood in our backyard that has been there for maybe 8-10 years. It's already so decayed that there's plants growing out of it and it falls apart when you kick it.

fark.com had a field day with the 'ark'. It was highly amusing to read that thread.

Yeah, working in the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the museum right now means that I am kind of in the middle of this kind of hullabaloo. Most people are pretty good. Then there are those that yell at ME because our timelines aren't B.C. or A.D., but BCE and CE. Also, apparently our exhibit is discriminatory because we included a Koran at the beginning in the part of the exhibit about the three religions on the region.

Suffice to say, I really, REALLY feel your pain right now.

At least you have six years of study backing up your decision to be an atheist! That's more research than many atheists have.
