Xerxes, originally uploaded by bertine.

I spent a good amount of last week ripping seams that I did wrong. Then I had to recut the black sashing and re-sew them to the blocks for my mom's quilt this weekend. It was good to make progress on a quilt again. I am hoping that I will have most of the top done before the weekend.

Xerxes is obsessed with the sewing machine. I think he likes the sound it makes. He also likes to lay on any new bits of fabric that I make. He is the official quilt block tester to see if it each one is comfortable enough.

Perhaps with his multiple colors he feels a kinship to quilt pieces?

My grandmother used to sing this annoying little mantra at me when I was sewing: First you learn to rip, then you learn to sew.

Are you using your new 1/4 inch foot to help you with the seams ? Also there is another foot called the "stitch in the ditch" that can help with your quilting by machine to.:)

The 1/4 foot helped a lot. I just read the pattern wrong and sewed about half the blocks on backwards. It wasn't a big deal to rip them I just did it while watching TV.

The foot you use to "Stitch in the ditch" is the "walking foot". I can do that but I want to learn how to free quilt. I have a machine quilting class next month that is going to teach me how to do all of that.
