Summary: We have a venue and a date - 12/26/2011

Today we toured a venue, liked it and so my dad put money down on it. Part of me feels really weird having my parents pay for part of my wedding but he wants to. They are paying for the food and the reception hall, which if you have ever gotten married you know is a big chunk of the cost. Still, he gave me the number he is willing to pay so I know what I have to work with.

I am hoping to keep the guest around 200. Actually, the hall would be packed with too many more than that so I don't think that will be too hard to do. I decided today that I am not going to have "plus ones" unless I know someone is dating someone pretty seriously. (sorry guys). I am also am pushing back on my parents and telling them that I am not inviting some people just because I should. I am okay with some of the people they want to invite that I don't know very well (my dad's aunts) but my aunt's husband's children from his first marriage that I have met twice and haven't seen in over five years? No.

Also, if you aren't invited to my wedding it isn't a slight, rather it is because I have such a huge family. This is going to be the hard for me.

Our date is weird, it is the day after Christmas. I like it. I sort of like the idea of getting married on a Monday and being weird. We picked it because we wanted to get married over winter break and the options were Christmas weekend or over New Year's weekend. New Year's Weekend was already booked and we didn't want to get married on Christmas Eve or Day. So Monday it is.

I know! Or St Stephan's Day, as [livejournal.com profile] avecvu pointed out before. I think it is a good date. This way we have an excuse to extend the Christmas holiday.

And the first day of Kwanzaa. And soon your wedding anniversary! Truly the most wonderful time of the year.

My parents got married on boxing day too, in 1950.
:D yay!

We wanted to keep it to 200, as well, and it ended up at about 250.

It adds up fast.

Yeah, it was a little shocking to me.

BTW, congrats! Your wedding looked pretty awesome. :)

Congratulations on the hall & the date! That's a giant batch of wedding work done. If I remember right, you don't need to think about anything for another 3 months! (I mean, unless you want to!)

Are you doing the ceremony at the same location or are you going to rock my world by getting married at the government center? Seriously, that's one of the best perks about working here -- seeing people get married.

We are getting married at the place and they are the caterer also. Actually, part of what I liked about this place is how much they dealt with and the hall already looked the way way I wanted it to look. I just need to decorate the tables and get some candles for the hallway and maybe some sort of arch thing to get married under (maybe my brothers will make me something) and I'll be set.

I am going to hit the after Christmas sales for Christmas decorations this year. That is the next thing I have to think about. LOL

Getting married on boxing day huh? How many smartasses on your list will gift you with Rock-M Sock-M Robots or some other punching game? LOL!

So...What venue did you get? Those of us who don't get invites will hold our own party outside on the street. ;)

Given that it's so far out and on a holiday, it might be a good idea to split your guest list into "A" and "B". Then if a bunch of people on the A list say they can't make it, send out invites to the B list until you fill your quota. Like, if all your friends from LJ can't make it, you can start inviting your dad's aunt's cousin's college roommate's kids' babysitter's boyfriend, or whatever.

I am doing "A", "B", and "C" lists but I think you are right, that is the best way to do it.

My brother told me that he invited about 220 and ended up with only 130 people at his wedding. That makes me pretty hopeful. Ha!

I don't have the numbers in front of me from our wedding, but that sounds about right. Send out ~250 in the first batch, and see what happens. Not everyone is going to make it, especially so close to Xmas.

Congrats! That is a huge chunk of planning. And using after Christmas sales to bargain shop decorations. Brilliant. But we knew that about you already.

Just be aware of when you send the invitations. If you give them a save the date card that will ensure that the people who have to travel long distances will make it. Then when the official, oh I need to get your dinner order in ASAP, formal invitation replies will come back faster. :)

But then again, I planned my wedding in four months out of state with 50 guests that ended up at 30 due to a blizzard. Ha!
