iPad
It is so pretty. I don't think I will get one. I can't really see using it that much. I think a netbook would be more useful for using while sitting on the couch watching tv and playing on the internet. Still... so pretty...

The wi-fi only kindle
The kindle has finally gotten down to a price where I could see buying it just to use for the classics of which Zach and I read quite often. Though I am sure it wouldn't take long until I broke down and bought books. Zach and I would share this.

(Yes, [livejournal.com profile] snurri, I have read your posts about the evilness of amazon.com but this is *lust*!)

A Power Nozzle for my vacuum
I have three cats. They shed a lot and there is a fine coating of cat hair on everything I own.

A netbook
So I can check my email without getting off the couch. I am lazy.

A Canning Kit
For pickle making. Mmm... pickles. Actually, this was cheaper at Walmart. Yes, I went to Walmart on a date with my boyfriend. It was fun. You can get Tastykakes there.

The iPad is pretty cool. I was surprised how heavy it is.

That is why I want a netbook. Upstairs is so far.

I have a similar list. A netbook like whoa - because I think it would be awesome for taking notes in class. I spent like two hours cleaning out my vacuum trying to make it suck like it used to (that's what she said) to no avail. And something about that kindle is seeming more and more attractive. Especially since now you can rent eBooks from the library.

What sort of vacuum do you have? I decided not to get a bagless vacuum because I didn't want to have to clean it out and sneeze alot. However, the canister one I bought was expensive and didn't come with the power attachment. However, it is pretty awesome even without it.

Yeah, at $139 I think the kindle is something I will actually purchase opposed to just lusting after. Do you know if renting books from the library works with the kindle? Because if you can I am sold.

I have an older Oreck - inherited but has worked pretty well until recently.

As for the library - they have eBooks - which are not natively compatible. But I have a girlfriend who has learned to successfully convert them for use on her Kindle. I could get more info from her, if you like.

ETA: Sounds like she uses a series of Python scripts to remove the DRM and would be willing to share them.

If I had lots of money Apple's sexy products would tempt me more, even though I logically know better, Apple just has a way of making things I want.

Most days at work I feel like I'm covered in a thick coating of cat fur, if you get the power nozzle I'd like to borrow it for myself. ;)

I'd get an iPad miles before I'd get a netbook. I find netbooks incredibly unusable for all thee things an iPad would be great for (quick email checking, quick web browsing, etc.).

That said, I'd wait till the next version and/or some competing products. Like the pandigital novel thing (hackable android tablet).

I'll be honest, I <3 my netbook, but as of late, the processor runs sooooo sloooow. I'm not sure what its deal is. :(

The iPad is a very nice thing, but I just can't work out why I want it. But I want it. But not enough to pay for it. I love my netbook. Not as sexy, but.. it's awesome.

Don't cheat yourself with the wifi only kindle. Get the one with free 3G. Totally worth the additional $50.

Do you have a kindle? I am just not sure I would ever use the 3G. I don't really travel much and Minnepolis has wireless internet. Then again, it is only $50 and it might be nice not to have to worry about it if I did happen to be someplace other than home and wanted to read a new book.

I bought one for Jackie (shhh.. still a secret) and I've been setting it up. If you think about it most data plans on a phone (or the ipad) are $30-$50 a month. This is a one time charge of $50 for 3G connexion. It seems like a false economy to not get it.

OMG you have a Miele? Swoon! My aunt has one and it's da bomb. I have the power attachment for my Dyson and it does help -- but the Dyson's hose is so short I have to have El Hubbo hold the machine while I work on the stairs. :(

I thought I wanted an iPad, but then decided a netbook might be better. So I played with the netbooks at the store and thought they were okay. Until I went back and touched a new Mac laptop and it was over.

You're welcome to borrow my canning kit until I rustle up the chutney ingredients.

Yeah, I had to sell some stock last year (at a loss) and I realized it was about as much as a Miele vacuum so I decided it was time to buy one. It is the least expensive one but it is so nice. It is light and has a long hose and I don't ever have to sweep again. I just think I need a power attachment for the rug because I have a lot of wool rugs.

I am sure I'll waffle over these two things for a while. I don't really need either one, I have a work laptop and a really nice desktop at home. I am so spoiled.

My mom has a canning kit that I usually use, I am just thinking it is time to get my own.

You can consider yourself spoiled or you can consider yourself staying on top of your field. For me, being on the web all the time is part of what makes me good at the web.

You really want to store a canning kit all the time? They're so big!

A few of the guys at work have iPads now, and they are thinking about issuing one to each manager so I may end up with one soon. I've had the opportunity to play with them and I can see myself using them for two things:

1. Games. It is a really fun casual gaming platform. I don't own any handheld or console gaming systems but after playing some of the games available for the iPad I almost wanted to get one just for that.

2. As a 3rd monitor. Not *really* a third monitor since I doubt it lets you do that, but it would be nice to have an extra screen so I could have a special area for monitoring server statuses, etc.

--

On the topic of netbooks, I hate them with a passion. They are way too cramped to type on comfortably, the screens are too small or low res to really be useful for anything, and they still have the awkward form factor of a laptop, but with a slower CPU worse battery life. Aside from being cheaper they don't seem to have any real advantages. If you start looking at "nice" netbooks with bigger screens, dual core atom processors and better battery life, they start to overlap in price (well, maybe $100 more) with small low end 13-14" laptops; those laptops are just as lightweight as a netbook with the advantage of being a real computer.

--

Kindle: Now that it's so cheap I am really thinking about getting one too. The fact that the screen has to flash black whenever you change the page is annoying, but might be worth it anyway. I use the eBook reader on my phone and I love that, a dedicated device for eBooks might be really nice. Epic battery life and not having to worry about accidentally falling asleep with it on or not plugged in would be awesome. :)
