I tried to make puff pastry for the first time tonight. I am pretty sure it is going to be a failure.

SIGH.

I know, I know. It is a hard thing to make but it shouldn't have been *that* hard to make.

LOL, I am good at pastry stuff. I am not good at cooking. I can usually get complicated baking stuff done the first time. Alas, I think I am going to have to try this one a couple times.

PS, thank you for telling me this, I was really frustrated and upset last night about having to throw away the puff pastry and it made me feel better than Alton Brown cheats.

I made my tomato pasta last night. I've made that recipe a hundred times and yesterday I made it WRONG. Sometimes you don't don't win.

I had a similar experience with popovers. Whenever I try to make them they just don't want to cooperate. Sometimes you eat the kitchen, sometimes the kitchen eats you. Or something.

I suppose since lard has fallen out of favour, butter is more common in recipes. But we were taught in school to use half the amount of lard as plain flour, very cold water to mix and fold until your arms drop off!
