Cats

Xerxes went to the vet this morning. It turns out that he isn't big boned and needs to go on a diet. Of course this vet thinks wet food is bad for cats, which is totally different than what my old vet told me*. Regardless, I think this means we will be giving them even less food. Poor kitties.

Anyways, Xerxes should be feeling better now that his problem** was taken care of.

*I love how there is a huge divide in the cat world on what to feed your cat.

**I am not going to talk about it since I want to respect his privacy.

I always thought that wet food in moderation was good for cats because it gives them more protein and hydration? Maybe it varies from vet to vet.

I don't know, we give our cats a third of a can of wet food each day to supplement the dry, and they haven't gained or lost weight in a year.

I have always thought to. I think we give the cats way too much dry cat food and I have been lazy and have been buying cat food from target the last six months or so and Xerxes and Emerson have gained weight. Harriet has not.

Poor Xerxes.

I am defensive about wet food, because sometimes it is the only option... before feeding raw

I worry about them not getting enough water. Plus they like it and I think any diet can have variety in it!

ok, one thing that the kitty clinic always gave me grief for was the weight of my cats. did you have a lady vet? she almost made me cry about ellipses' weight - and he's not even that big!

Yeah, it was a lady. She didn't make me cry but she brought it up a lot.

Also, she gave me a lot of grief because I was "behind" on vaccinations. Um... 3 months behind and I really hate bringing my cat out when it is cold out.

i'm sorry you didn't have dr. mike, he's like a sweet grampa for kitties. :(

i still get postcards with lots of high-lighting and inferred exclamation points about how behind on vaccinations i am. i should really call them to tell them i moved. but also, i just don't see much point if my kitties are healthy and stay indoors.

I'll trade you fat cat with privacy issues for really skinny cat who's about to become radioactive!

I've been told my cat will NOT glow in the dark.

I'm somewhat disappointed.

However, hearing someone talk about your cat and a geiger counter in the same sentence was kinda cool.

I see your radioactive cat, and I raise you two obese guinea pigs!

I think radioactive still wins!

You know, we put Kitty Michaels and Gray Cat on Feline WD a few years back and its actually amazing how little food they actually need to be well fed and healthy.

They still get wet food once or twice a week as a special treat, but they are really fine with the smaller portions.

There is a huge divide, and the people with opinions hold them very strongly and GRAWR-y. I'm just like WTFever at least I feed her.

You wouldn't love the divide if you had to debate it with adamant cat ladies at work every day. ;P

How much does Xerxes weigh in at?

15.1 pounds but he is really long too. He is half again as long as Harriet and she is 8.5 pounds.
