The last month or so I have been really tempted to go to Burning Man. What do you think?

As long as you don't mind extremely basic dirt that gets into everything (and by base, I mean, don't walk barefoot), no showers, people sleeping with everyone and everything in sight, and did I mention the dust and dirt and no showers and blistering heat?

The only reason people go is to get high and get laid.

Have you been? I went last year and managed to not get high or laid.

Would rather go to Pennsic, where at least the environment isn't completely inhospitable.

But being a Festie is even worse than being a Burner, if you can imagine that!

I don't do drugs at all (unless you count imitrex) and I doubt I would even drink that much when it is that hot and dry out. I also doubt I would get laid because that isn't why I would go.

I mostly just want to go because it seems like an experience that would stick with me. That is what I collect in life.

I think it was a pretty cool deal 15 years ago, but now it's just a freak fest. But, there is only one way to find out! ;-)
The playa dust does get EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, that is sort of my concern now. Still, I didn't know about it 15 years ago and it just seems like it might be something interesting to do.

My other problem is that I really do want to go to Turkey, I just don't know if I could do big vacations so close together.

I *loved* Turkey. Loved it.

From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
I am sure I will love it too. I am just wondering when I should go. I don't want to go in summer but Eric can't go after school starts. We were talking about over christmas but i have a feeling that most of the toursit stuff is shut down then because it is off season. That then pushes us to Spring break, which is after I lose all my vacation for this year. So I need another trip.

Ditch Eric. Early fall is the best time to go.

Part of me wants to ditch him but it would be fun to go with him. we have never travelled anywhere just the two of us.

You could take him to St. Paul after and show him pictures. ;-)

LOL

But I like travelling with other people. I am not opposed to going by myself just I have done it so often it is nice to have someone to share it with.

I know.. Just teasing, but September is ideal. Summer is SCORCHING, much later and it is wet.

There is no way I am going in the summer. I am not a heat person.

Blah, stupid school.

Can't he send a friend in his place? ;-) It worked for George Bush.

Ha ha ha ha.

No travel partner is one of the things I don't like about being single.

Pfffft! My wife and I don't like to go to the same places. So we don't go anywhere. Try that one on for size.

YOu always burst my bubble about relationships. :P

There is a lot of good stuff too, but I think a lot of folks idealize this stuff. most of the time both people are compromising.

Date: 2009-01-15 08:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
Yeah, I don't really. I am sure if I get in a relationship my travel needs aren't going to be as fulfilled as they are now.

Not unless you're suddenly into drunkeness and drugs and orgies and dirt.

Date: 2009-01-15 08:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
I never would expect you to want to go. :P

Yeah, but seriously, I wouldn't expect any non-hippy to want to go. I mean, sure, it might be interesting to see, but not if you had to, you know, be there...

Date: 2009-01-15 08:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
It is funny, sometimes I don't think you really know me that well. I am not a hippy but I don't mind being there.

Date: 2009-01-15 08:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com
Heh, well, clearly I don't. I dunno, I'm definitely not telling you not to go, but you know, you asked!

Date: 2009-01-15 08:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
LOL. I know

It is funny how people are so split on liking it or not.

From: [identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com
Looks like me and some other person don't like it and everyone else does!

I think you should go for the experience.

That is what I am thinking.

I think the incredible spawned creativity and woodstock atmosphere will be fun. That's why I'm going.

And I like playing in the dirt. So, pbbbbbbbbbbbbbt!

From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
I think it will be fun to do once. The enviroment and the dirt won't bug me much. Plus I could ride my bike and watch people.

Is this man on fire? or is that burning some kind of a rash? Because that would be a big determining factor for me if I was thinking of going to him.

I think each would be an epic experience; both to tell the grandkids about if you will. With either choice you can't fail.

The REAL question is this: What KIND of "vacation mood" are you in? Hrm? Exotic & foreign, or Raw & Powerful?

see - i'm thinking it would be an interesting experience & that's what led me to suggest you go. i don't think you're necessarily in their target demographic, if you will, but it seems to me you could still enjoy yourself & have wonderful memories & stories.

there are so many amazing things to see & do in the world - what else is on your list?
