Biking

I biked to work. It took about an hour but would have taken less time if I

  1. hadn't fallen while trying to get on my bike

    1. Had to fix my fender

  2. hadn't gotten lost after trying a different route than the one I had mapped out

    1. river road really does end
    2. it is Logan, not Morgan that goes through

  3. was in better shape

    1. *puff*puff*

Otherwise it was pretty easy. It was 11.1 miles and I averaged 12.3 mph (I am out of shape). About a third of the ride was right along the river, which was beautiful. I took a quick shower when I got to work but I didn't want to wash my hair because it takes forever to dry, I didn't think I would get so sweaty. Oh well.

I am going to take a different route home. The route looks like it would be around 15 miles but almost all of it is on trails.

I am bringing shampoo tomorrow.

Trust me, it was really hard to actually get out of bed at 7 am this morning. Usually I can stay in bed until 7:45. Sigh.

Tomorrow I am driving because I have plans after work. (good excuse, right?)

7:45?? jealous. i have to be out of bed by 6:25 at the latest. i just move too slowly.

just to be curious: i google mapped my "bike route" to work and it doesn't seem so treacherous... but how to know if it's really very bike friendly?

I can't ever get out of bed. It is awful. Once I do I have to get ready really fast. Sometimes I stay in bed until 8:15. Sigh.

I have a Twin Cities bike map that is awesome, it shows all the bike paths. Also, this site: http://www.mplsbikelove.com has a route planning section that was really useful for me.

[livejournal.com profile] jessikate told me about it! That is how I figured out a good route to work!

Congratulations on your ride to work! It took me about 50 minutes my first day because I hadn't worked out an efficient route yet. It's cool that you work in a place where you can shower at work. I just have to pat the sweat off my face when I get to work. ;-)

I'll figure out some different routes. I just like trails better than then some of the roads. One of the roads I was going to ride was being resurfaced and sort of sucked because of that.

The shower is pretty awesome. I just sort of rinsed off (and warmed up, it was pretty chilly this morning). My last job didn't have a shower but then again I only rode 3 miles. Ha!

Yay!

I just need to get in the routine of biking and I should lose the last 20 pounds that I can't seem to get rid of.

How far is that? What are you going to buy?

Buy some beets and bring them to me and I'll roast them for you. :P

I think they might have beets.

It's about 3 miles away, so not very far. I'm getting broccoli and potatoes and cauliflower and I forget what else. Anything I see that's good (:

I think I would die if I rode that much. There is a farmers market on Tuesdays by my house. :)

LOL. It is only another 15 miles.

How about I try after I ride a couple more weeks. :P

No rush. There won't be honeycrisp apples for another few weeks yet.

An hour for 11.1 miles? That sounds pretty good to me. Maybe I have low standards, but I consider that in shape! Congrats!

So, you're biking all the way / round trip today?

If I pushed my average speed up a bit I could get to work in 45 minutes, which would be only 20 minutes more than it takes me driving.

Yeah, I decided to just push myself, the way home will be harder but I don't have any plans tonight so I can take my time. Plus I can't ride tomorrow since I have a hair appointment at 6pm, so I'll have a rest tomorrow.

1. I never liked to drive. It is a way to get from point A to point B.

2. I suppose. The out of shape comment is how hard my heart was beating at times. I can't remember the last time I wanted to just lay on the ground until it stopped.

One thing I really miss about the midwest is being able to ride my bike. Riding in my neighbourhood is a major fitness hurdle.

Yeah, I like how flat it was. Just a couple nice rolling hills.
