On Friday I went to both the MFM and the OB. They decide that if this baby doesn't pop out by September 13th, they are going to induce. That would put me just short of 40 weeks.

I have mixed feelings about this. Right now I sort of just want the baby out. I am uncomfortable, hot and sick of being pregnant. Then there is the part of me that wants to know how my body goes into labor.

So... I am hoping that I just go into labor before September 13th.

With baby #1, they added pitocin to "move things along" from early labor to active labor. That took me a little over 10 hours, which was considered good for a first baby. With baby #2, it wasn't needed - I went from first contraction to delivery in just under five hours. The reason that one went so well is because my water didn't break until I was fully dilated and started to push, so I was able to be up walking around. (That REALLY helps. If you are "fortunate" enough to be mobile during your labor, I imagine it will move things along for you at a decent pace.)

Baby #3 was different. I was having on and off contractions all during the last two months of the pregnancy. At my well baby visit, I was a couple of centimeters dilated. We lived kinda far from the hospital. There was a real concern that I'd go into labor and not be able to get to the hospital in time. So we induced right then and there, a few weeks early. With #3, I actually knew the conception date, so I knew I was at just under 36 weeks. So really, he was ready, but not. So that was a real induction, and the entire labor took 14 1/2 hours.

I survived just fine all three of my deliveries. I know they hurt, and I know they hurt A LOT. But I couldn't even begin to really describe it in full detail because your body is designed to forget. (That whole survival of the species thing, probably.)

If you want to do "natural" induction, try having lots of sex, or more specifically, lots of orgasms. Move something heavy. Run. Or, if you're desperate, like my mother was, drink some castor oil.
