I did the bus thing for many many years when I lived in Philadelphia. My house didn't have a car at all. The only good thing about the bus is that you can decompress, but I'm not sure it's even worth it for that. Even in a city that has *ok* public transportation, I have hundreds of stories of late buses, crazy people on buses, messed up trains, etc etc. When I got the car that I have now--man, it was like heaven.
