Seriously, what do you register for when you are 34, don't like things that aren't useful and have already bought everything that is useful?

I shouldn't have bought a coffeemaker and then we would have three items in our registry but it is so much cheaper to make my own coffee!

I didn't think I needed anything either. But someone gave us silverware as a wedding gift which I found really useful because we were constantly running out of spoons. Need anything replaced? I could really use a new cutting board ;)

When Zach moved in we started replacing all our older cheap stuff with good quality stuff. However, we will be registering for silverware at Macy's. This list is from target.

BTW, who knew the biggest stress in this process would be the registry!

I bet Xerxes would appreciate if you registered for more cat food.

Last night I was thinking about that as a joke!

Williams Sonoma! Fancy mixers and Star Wars cookie cutters and aprons and fancy food rubs and holiday decorations!

Get some nice china. You have your day china, but some fancy stuff for holidays is good. It doesn't have to be $100 per setting, but something pretty is nice.

I got a GC for christmas last year from Williams Sonoma and it took me 9 months to find something to buy there. I ended up getting placemats.

Sigh. I think I just don't like getting presents very much.

I have a set of china from my grandmother. I also will be getting another set from my mother one day.

I actually have more of a need for day-to-day plates than china but I really don't need much.

I *do* need silverware and serving flatware.

I always want new towels - big, fluffy, wonderful towels.

Or how about new bedding? I always thought it would be awesome to have a couple sets of sheets so that I didn't have to do the wash the sheets and made the bed thing on the same day.

I totally, totally heart my kitchenaid mixer and food processor.

Do you have good knives? I mean, like, really good knives? I love to buy people knives as gifts because it's such a treat to have a great knife.

What about a turkey roaster? Will you be doing Thanksgiving ever?

I was impressed by their condiment selection. You could stockpile nutmeg and allspice and meat rubs for the holidays. We also found ginger syrup, which went really well on pancakes and over ice cream. Looking forward to trying it in hot tea, once the temps go down a little more.

I would totally go with Crate and Barrel :)

I buy everything I need! We have really nice towels, I have at least 5 nice sets of sheets. I have a kitchenaid and a food processor.

Zach came with a really nice set of knives and his parents gave us a fun set of okay knives.

I don't have a turkey roaster but I still go to Thanksgiving with my aunts and uncles. It'll be at least 10 years before we do Thanksgiving.

Seriously, I think the probelm is that I already feel like I have enough junk that I don't want to register just to register.

I am going to register for steamless wine glasses. That will be fun. Oh, and Zach wants imperial pint glasses. So we will get up to 5 items. Argh!

My siblings will be giving us the big spice set from Penzey's. It is a tradition.

Register for charities. If you don't need anything then what is the point of letting someone spend their money on you just to make them happy? Or tell them just to hold on to it until it's time for a baby shower. I'm sure there are a few things you'll need then. :p

This is what we wrote on our site:

http://zachandbertine.com/registry/

However, I know people will want to give us stuff so we still need to register.

PS, I plan on registering when we have a baby. That is stuff I don't have. :P

Ask for gift certificates to baby supply places. You are planning on having a rug rat you may as well be well armed for purchasing all the required materials that are needed. Childproofing stuff and the like. Also, how about a GC to a bike place. You two will need one of those bike trailer things for baby Berch* when you go biking.

* = BERtine + zaCH. You could go with Zartine, but that's too close to Zartan and you don't want people to confuse future baby with a evil Cobra agent running around your home someday.

I've always thought it is too bad that it's considered gauche to ask for cash gifts, even when that's what the couple needs most. I went to a wedding not too long ago of someone who was registered on a website that set up a honeymoon fund by breaking down parts of the honeymoon into items (day at a hotel, bottle of champagne, etc), so you could still feel like you were 'buying a gift' instead of just giving cash. It seemed like a rather elaborate way to deal with the etiquette issue, but I realize some people need that.

If you and Zach would prefer cash gifts, you could have a few well-placed friends and relatives quietly circulate that while you're registered, what you'd really like is money towards a honeymoon/house/etc fund. I think it's okay etiquette if it's more word of mouth than written down somewhere!

You could register at somewhere like SmartyPig - towards a honeymoon or other large purchase you know is upcoming, or register for services - massage, house cleaners, movers (if you are still planning on moving soon), home improvement stuff (if you've still got stuff to do with that).

Outdoor speakers (or maybe wireless) would be good. You have some good suggestions.

You mentioned your Macy's registry in your most recent post, so I went surfing.

Macy's has window treatments! You must surely need/want some blinds or curtains to undo the mancave.
