CON

I am really looking forward to CONvergence this year. I have a new costume made by [livejournal.com profile] damncutekitty. Altaira from Forbidden Planet.

This is the picture she used to base the costume on:
Altaira From Forbidden Planet

I need to go get a fitting, find some shoes and figure out how to wear my hair and I will be set!

The other costumes will be Blossom from the Power Puff girls from last year (group costume with [livejournal.com profile] lisianthia and [livejournal.com profile] damncutekitty) and my space girl costume because I love the shiny pants, dress and blue hair. Oh, and white boots.

We will be doing the Snack Food Glory Hole again this year. I believe it will be outside of the House of Toast again but [livejournal.com profile] lisianthia is our contact with them. The great thing about the SFGH is that we can pull that together at the last moment. I really think it worked well last year and if we do it when the House of Toast isn't running it would be even better because they do get a line. I believe all that is left with that is printing the flyers, getting the snack food, maybe buying new buttons, maybe setting up a facebook page and if we aren't going to be at the same spot as last year, changing the hole.

Oh, we will have stickers this year:

Finally I am excited because new people are coming to CON!

First, [livejournal.com profile] gwangi is coming. I think he is going to like it despite his griping about it. He likes to gripe about "NerdConFest" but he is also planning outfits that have both dinosaurs and Batman in them.

Second, Erica is coming!

Before the Joplin tornado she was planning on coming up here, with her three boys, for CON and there was some debate on if she would still come. However, she decided that it was a good idea to get a break. She has been working a lot since she is a nurse. Her house is fine but that is her home town and her highschool isn't even on the map anymore. The boys are really stressed out about the whole thing and it will be good for them.

Serinia bought them tickets for their Christmas present last year and they have been planning their costumes for a while. I am rather looking forward to taking three boys, ages 7-10, around during the day to all the kids stuff. At night they are going to stay at my parents house.

Update: I ordered 240 stickers and the more I look at them, the more I wonder if I should order more of them. I have a feeling that the stickers are going to do the trick and get people to come to the hole. Seriously, who wouldn't put their face to a hole and have something random shoved into it for that sticker?

Love the stickers!

If we enforce the swallowing rule, and only give stickers to people who actually go up to the hole, and swallow the food (we always get some spitters), then 240 is plenty. We ran for less than 6 hours total last year and didn't have that many people come by.

If we want to give out the stickers as a "promotional" bit to get people to come to the SFGH, then more might be a good idea.

I figured we would give them to all our friends before we even open for the first night. The Rock Band people, the HoT people, etc so we get some word of mouth. After that we enforce the swallowing rule.

They won't go bad so if I ordered another batch we can save them for next year. Then again, if we just give out a set amount each night we would be fine also.

So, the buttons are pretty cheap. Do you want two types again? "Snack Food Glory Hole" and "Glory Hole Technician".

I don't want you sink a ton of money into stickers/buttons, they get pricey!

We could do "glory hole technician" ones again but it's just the three of us running the hole. Unless we get other volunteers, we are the only techs. LOL.

"Snack Food Glory Hole" ones are good, maybe we could come up with some slogans. I remember in '09 we had some on our flyers like:

"Not your father's glory hole" and "100% food, 0% wang".

The buttons are $2.50/5 for 1 inch or $5.90/5 for 2.25 inch. I will have to order them in packs of 5 for each "slogan". So they aren't terrible. I was thinking about getting a bunch that just said "SFGH" in the small size and then maybe some with slogans for volunteers that do more like Zach. I don't mind spending too much money on this since I am only getting one new costume this year!

It would not be a bad idea to get some new "technician" buttons since we are out of them and we will have new volunteers this year.

I can buy a second round of them for $.15 a piece, which isn't bad at all. The first round was $.22 a piece.

Me and my friend Wren will also be at CON and I will for sure stop by the snack food glory hole! Given the character I'm portraying, 'I Swallowed' will be extra innuendo-y! ::claps excitedly::

Yay! I think we need a facebook page to post the hours we will be open once we figure that out.

WAIT!!!

I'm not sure you can do stickers. IIRC, stickers are banned because they tend to get stuck all over the hotel. Check the Parties Rules book or with the Parties Head to confirm, but this is setting off panic alarms in my head right now.

Oh gosh darn it. I can totally see that.

The worst part is that I found buttons for the same price as the stickers so I would have bought buttons if I had known about them. Feh, that is life.

Do you have a link to the rule books?

Argh! My Googles aren't working. The little pinwheel just keeps on spinning. And Convergence.org isn't for our nerd-party. I don't know. Google for "Convergence Parties Manual".

I don't see any room party rules listed on the site. I found this list of convention policies http://www.convergence-con.org/amenities/ops/policies.php which mentions adhesives but only talks about tape for flyers.
