Dress

Yesterday I went to David's Bridal with my mom, Serinia, [livejournal.com profile] damncutekitty, [livejournal.com profile] lisianthia, tried on a bunch of dresses and ended up buying one that I liked.

This is the dress I bought*. It is actually much nicer in person than in that photo, I like the organza and for some reason they decided to take a picture of the dress in the harshest light possible that doesn't show off the organza at all. What is sort of funny is how much I liked the lace gowns over the satin ones.

Now, I am sure you noticed that the price of the gown is twice what I wanted to spend. Welcome to weddings. Sign. Plus my mom paid for the overage. Double sigh. I got home and asked my dad if that was okay and he was "I was expecting us to pay for the whole dress".

Sigh.

On the upside, I have wedding shoes, a long line bra, and I am using my mom's veil. I am also pretty sure I know what jewelry I am wearing. So all I need is tights/socks and I should be set.

*I am leaving it up to [livejournal.com profile] gwangi if he wants to see the dress or not.

You are going to look beautiful in that gown.

Weddings just cost a lot. It's the industry. *sigh*

You realize as someone who lives in the South, when I got to the part where you said you needed socks, I paused. :)

Thank you! It is really nice. It isn't super heavy like a lot of them so it will be a lot of fun to dance in.

It is a December wedding in Minnesota. LOL. I am thinking about getting knee high striped socks. LOL.

Yeah, all the $300 dresses were okay but were very plain. My plan was to look for a cheaper dress online once I knew what shape would look good but I guess my mom knew that would just stress me out and just wanted me to have this off my list. My parents think my cheapness is funny.

I am actually started to feel less cheap about this wedding. I think that is a good thing.

I just think of you as a good example of Midwestern thriftiness. :D

You're only going to get married once, God willing. So live it up for once. Get the name-brand soda!

Which is why I'm absolutely shocked that you chose a strapless dress. I expected long sleeves and a high collar.

But I'm so glad it's not like that - just from a selfish point of view, all that white near your face would not do me (or you) any favours. So I'm glad it's low cut and sleeveless

I just really liked the top. It is a little shocking because I didn't think I would like strapless at all. However, it really worked for me and will work even better when it is fitted.

Right now I was fine with it, however, I might do a shrug when I try it on closer to the wedding. I am not sure. It should be pretty warm in the event center so I am just going to go with it.

Was wondering if you were going to share the dress.
Yaye you did! xD
Can imagine how incredibly lovely that will look on you and make you feel, nice choice.
Doing this for you, as much as it makes you sigh, prolly makes your parents really happy, I'd advise letting go and going with it.
Your posts make me beam some times :D

My parents are really excited for this wedding. Right now my dad is working 70 or so hours a week since he makes overtime he should have the wedding paid for by mid-June.

And they sort of want to spoil me but I don't like spending extra money.

Think I totally get it about the money thing, it would make me really uncomfy.
Making them happy is a good thing to focus on to make that uncomfy go away is what I'm getting at. ;)

The dress is so much prettier IRL than in those pics!

I know! Plus those pictures are of the "white" dress, not of the "soft white". I don't think the details pop out at all when you pick white.

1) The dress is lovely
2) It's reasonably priced for a wedding dress

1) Thank you.
2) I know, which is why I didn't throw a fit or anything. I just decide to let my mom and sister talk me into their plan. I really liked it.

Do you really want to know?

Yes, I like to be kept abreast about such issues.

It is this

It is a bra that also helps shape everything. Plus it helps the dress flow better over your body. Mine actually goes over my hips, which I like because it doesn't leave a weird bump on your waist.

Oh, so it's like a corset, except that it's not based on a medieval torture device.

Exactly. I bought this one 5 or 6 years ago for a bridesmaid dress and now I wear it once a year or so when I want to wear a strapless dress. It adds just enough support for them.

I love the dress, and I cannot wait to see [livejournal.com profile] gwangi's face when he sees you walk down the aisle. Personally I still think you should get some red shoes, though.

Love the dress! I could see the details if I zoomed in on the picture.

I'm not a lace gal either, but I always like lace wedding dresses better than just plain satiny ones.
