Annoyed

Sometimes I get a little annoyed at having hobbies. First, I feel like I shouldn't even have them because there is so many other things I should be doing with my time. I should be working more, I should be working on my condo more, I should be helping Eric with his house more, etc. Then when I do start a hobby I feel like I shouldn't spend any money on it and that I am not making enough progress with it. On Saturday my sister and I went to the quilt shop to the last of the supplies for my quilt and I was looking at some fabric that was pretty. She was telling me that I can't buy any fabric because I have to use up all of my mom's fabric first. WTF? Then I get teased about saying I'll make quilts but not finishing them, which strikes me as funny because I have been doing this for 5 weeks and I have two in works, one almost done and one 1/3 done.

I want to make [livejournal.com profile] gwangi a quilt but I don't want to spend the money on the fabric. I hate being broke.

How about going to Savers for the fabric. They carry fabric that has not even been used. That might help you. :)

They do? I didn't know that. I'll have to check that out!

Um, the only WTF I see in here is you saying you shouldn't have hobbies. OF COURSE YOU SHOULD HAVE HOBBIES.

I just feel guilty, there are so many things I should be doing.

You shouldn't. Stop feeling guilty. Problem solved! (:

"there are so many things I should be doing"

This is a cognitive distortion.

My stepmom's fabric stash is humongous. (She's a quilter and has been doing it for 20 years. She whips out a quilt every few weeks.) Your sister is on crack.

If you sew in any capacity you should have a fabric stash.
Inspiring fabric that makes you itch to start a project.
I limit myself to one of those big rubbermaid tubs. But that is because I sew about once a year.
My mother has an entire room filled with bins of amazing fabric that she has collected and inevitably uses fabric from one intended project on another.
It is part of the fun.
We call it feel therapy. Go to the fabric store of your choice and feel the fabric and look at how pretty it is. We spent two hours of my trip to NY in a fabric store playing.
