My poor car

I was in an accident today. I rear ended someone on the death trap known as 94 westbound before the lowry tunnel. This death trap has been even worse since they have had construction on this stretch of road a couple months ago.



Basically, while I was checking to see if anyone was in my blind spot the girl in the car in front of me had to stop suddenly and I hit her. I was only going about 30 miles an hour so it wasn't too bad except my airbag went off which freaked me out*. The state tropper that helped us off the road and wrote up the accident told us that we were the third accident he had written up in this area that morning because of all the merging.

Now we will see if my brand new car (2000 miles) will get totalled or repaired. Either way I'll be driving Zach's car for a month. BTW, this makes me glad I bought a new car. Hoopty wouldn't had done as well in an accident like this.


*Don't worry, I am happy my airbag went off. Also, the girl was much less freaked out than I was, which was good because she called 911. I was still trying to think for a moment there.

It is the first accident that I have been in that wasn't just a little fender bender. Holy cow, I am so shaken.

It took about a day for my shakiness to subside after my accident in May, but I was pretty anxious about driving for a while after. It sounds crazy, but every time I saw someone sitting at a stop sign on a cross street I internally panicked a bit, thinking they were going to just suddenly go when I was too close to the intersection to stop.

Ugh! Like you said, it's good you were in a new car. A similar thing happened to me years ago. I was 21 and didn't think I needed seatbelts. Thankfully I got a new(er) car a few months before my accident, otherwise I would have been severely injured or killed in my old car. I only ended up with bruises up my arms from the airbag and bruises on my knees. Airbags are wonderful.

I am still not sure the airbag did anything. I didn't hit it and it really shocked me. However, if I had been going any faster it would have been good.

Yeah I remember it being like the loudest thing I've ever heard. It's strange that yours went off at only 30mph, but I guess that's what they're supposed to do.

Mine is super advanced. It goes off if you don't have your seat belt on (I had mine on) or if you were sitting too close (possible) or if the impact hit in a certain way to throw you into the steering wheel. It is actually really cool except for the part where it was so loud and in your face.

I am fine and the other driver was fine also. Everyone was lucky. However, both of our cars weren't.

Wow, that is some horrible luck! Glad you're OK. Do you think it would be best if they did total it? Seems like it'll probably never be quite right if they fix it.

It is bad luck and I am going to avoid that route to work from now on.

I know, I am not sure that car could be fixed right even if they promise it could be.

I'm glad you're safe. It's crazy how every metropolitan area out there has certain unsafe spots - places where traffic flow really needs to be reexamined. Looks like you found one of them!

I know! It is crazy. It actually where 94 and 35 meet up so it is a really busy interchange.

Keep checking yourself though as some times the shock can make you stiff or mess with muscles and it doesn't kick in for a bit.

That whole area just makes me very anxious when I have to be in a vehicle on it. Starting from the 3rd ave exit all the way through the tunnel, I swear, I develop an ulcer every single time.

I drive it every day and have for 5 and a half years. It actually hasn't been that bad until July when they start construction on one of the bridges which made the traffic even worse than usual. Now I hate it.

Who know if they will. I am very well insured, so I don't think they can dick me around too much.

Insurance won't give you back a damaged car. They'll likely have some really good eval on it and have it fixed. I'm basing this on when I crashed my semi-new car a whole while ago. They fixed all the frame damage and all. I was good as new and I had no problems with it till the day I sold it.
