My Car

My car is awesome.

  • In the last month I have put 1200 miles on it. One chunk of that was a 260 mile road trip to see my friends Sara and Nathan and their *three* kids.

  • Now that I know how big it is, I am able to drive it around without feeling like I am about to hit people

  • It is an automatic with a manual-shift mode. This seems silly but we went down a big hill and used the engine as a brake. Yes, Minnesota has a big hill, [livejournal.com profile] gwangi was shocked.

  • It is really fun to drive. It handles nicely and it makes me want to go fast. I like driving now.

  • I love having a sunroof, it is silly to be so excited about a hole in the roof

  • I may have 60 more payments on it, but no interest. I still can't believe this.

I need to go get a carwash, I get free ones with the dealership and it is dirty. I think tomorrow night after work I'll go. :)

  • You must still be tired (:
  • I love manumatic transmission. If I ever get a car that doesn't have two separate engines in it I'd like it to have that. I love that every car maker has a different name for it, too.

  • Yeah, I am still tired. I decided to start drink caffiene again until I get used to these pills. It isn't helping as much as I hoped.
  • The "manumatic transmission" isn't great in regular traffic but it will be handy out west.

That's weird that it left out the bullets.

I've pretty much decided my car's smarter than me about what gear(s) to be in. Especially with the two engine thing. It gets much much much better mileage if I just get it up to the speed limit and cruise-control it. Even in suburban traffic.

I am really glad I went to a different dealership and test drove it again. This is so much better than the camry.

The Camry is like a great blender. A white good. It does a job joylessly.

I'm glad you like your new car.

My Smart has a maunmatic transmission(technically an auto-manual) and it's the best thing since sliced bread. I can't imagine having a car without that feature.

I've had my Smart for 2 years. I'm happy with it. I did have 2 problems that were solved under warranty. One was the transmission. A batch of cars, the first ones to come to the USA (mine is one of them) were assembled with the wrong parts so I got a new clutch and computer reprogram fro free. That made the car shift much smoother than it did when I first got it. The second problem was the rear hatch leaked and that too was fixed with an entire new hatch for free.

When I first got the car I couldn't have gotten more attention from people if I drove a Lamborghini filed with aliens from space. I still get people asking questions about it. It's maneuverable, feels bigger than it is, and does a good job of getting me to work.

Is the Smart car for everyone? No, but I like it and if someone wants one I suggest they take one for a test drive and think about it. I took the liberty of looking at your profile (sorry if that sounds stalkerish) and it says you are in Minnesota. I have to say that with it's all season tires the Smart really sucks in the winter snow, and I only live in NJ. It has traction control and stability control, but you have to take it easy. I've read several times on Smart car websites, that Canadian Smart owners fit the cars with snow tires and the cars are fine then.

Sorry about that long winded reply.. I'm just sort of in to my car :)

I would just as soon not drive in the snow. Even in decently equipped cars, it sucks. But that's good to know about the snow tires making it workable.

I'm still trying to sell the boyfriend on this being the greatest car in the history of cars.

As far as other small cars go... Some time early 2011 Toyota will be selling the Toyota IQ under it's Scion brand.. Chrysler will be selling the Fiat 500 also in 2011 as a Fiat. The US version of the Fiat is supposed to have an automatic transmission, which I don't think is offered in the UK version I linked to.

Yes, Minnesota has a big hill

As long as you don't call it a mountain, like Chris likes to do. Y'ALL DON'T HAVE MOUNTAINS, SRY.

I have been dating [livejournal.com profile] gwangi for a year and a half and he is from Montana. I think he would be upset if I called them mountains.

Anyways, wasn't a mountain at all. My ears didn't pop. Ha!

Chris still tries to claim there are mountains here. After SIX YEARS. This and the difference between tacos and burritos are the major sources of our disagreements.
