Cars

I test drove 5 cars today:
Honda Accord
Mazda Mazda6
Ford Fusion
Toyota Camry
Hyundai Sonata

The Accord was too boring even for me. I need to retest drive the Mazda6 because I had a headache and the salesman really annoyed me. The Fusion was too short for Zach with a sunroof and had a dated looking interior. The Camry is a little boring for Zach but might be an option. The Sonata was okay but drove weird on the freeway and I didn't like the way the options were (I would have to get navigation and XM radio to get a sunroof).

The plan tomorrow is to test drive a Mazda6 at a different dealership and then test drive a Nissan Altima. After that I am going to pick between those two and the Camry.

I was sort of hoping I would fall in love with one of these cars but I think this confirmed that I am just not a "car person".

You drove the Accord instead of the Civic? I'm surprised. Were you after the V6? These are all kind of big cars. Since none of them "spoke to you" maybe you should try driving something completely different?

I, being 6'3", literally am unable to drive the Civic. The seat and wheel configuration are just all wrong. I tried, but no dice. It's significantly more cramped than either her Saturn (which is plenty cramped!) or my Neon (which is surprisingly roomy, for reasons I don't quite understand).

I went with the V4 Accord but as Zach said the Civic just wasn't going to work. It was too small.

I don't know what else to try and I am sort of done with this process. If I could I would wait and try again in a month but I can't since I won't have a car come the 12th. Anyways, it is really just a way to get around.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] scentedwoods - the Civic will be a lot closer to your Saturn than any of these guys.

Also, if you want an "interesting" car, drive a Prius. Now you know I've got the whole geek thing going, but I really wish that car was LESS electronic-y. However, that'll show you what "modern" cars are supposed to be, I guess.

I test-drove a Camry hybrid, which is basically the highest-class Camry with a hybrid engine, and I actually liked it - it's a very, uh, Adult car, and I can see how that might be interpreted as "boring". But I'm wondering what you'd consider interesting.

I mean, my Civic should be more boring than an Accord, since the Accord is a much bigger and more expensive car, but I don't find it boring at all. Unless by "boring" you mean "It's not winning any drag-races anytime soon".

I really seriously think I just don't care about cars. I thought I would get excited about something but I didn't. So, I am thinking that the Camry will be a good care for me. The Accord was boring to drive and too many weird buttons on the dash for me.

I meant the handling of the Accord was boring. I think the Civic would be more fun to drive but Zach just wouldn't fit in it. :\

I find that not fitting thing somewhat dubious, but whatever.

You may have not found a car you really like, but you clearly do care enough to have an opinion, which is good.

I liked the Camry. I didn't go for it because the mileage was kinda low. I was a bit pissy that the hybrid got the same mileage as the non-hybrid! Also the dealer was kinda crappy to me.

Which dealer did you go to? I was at a Luther dealership which is what most of the test drives I went on were at. I didn't plan that, it just sort of happened that way.

Uh. It was the Toyota dealer on 61 in White Bear Lake. I've been there a few times over the past years and they're always shitty, except that they let you drive the cars without coming with.

Have you considered a VW Beetle? My 6'5" friend says that it's the only smaller car that gives him adequate headroom.

That anonymous comment was from me. I don't know why I had suddenly been logged out.

I want a car that can fit a car seat. I know someone that has a baby and a VW Beetle but I am not sure I can handle that. I like four doors.

We loved the Camry when we had the opportunity to drive one. Sad that we didn't end up going for a car - went for the mini-van instead (which was totally a good choice).

Bertine, I know you're not into cars and stuff, and would rather stick with one that you like a lot. I'm that way too. I also know you're looking at potentially expanding the family in the not-too-terribly-distant future.

You may want to seriously give some thought to a vehicle that would happily accommodate a couple of car seats and muchos baby paraphernalia.

I am pretty sure the Camry would accommodate a baby and their stuff. It has a huge trunk and a nice big backseat.

I think the camry is a good choice and they have a good repair record. :)
