Talents

I have a talent for keeping track of things that need to be done and then reminding the people that need to do them to do them.

Sometimes I feel valued and sometimes I wonder why they can't do it themselves.

I cannot do it. All of the GTD in the world hasn't saved me. Feh.

I can't not do it. Whenever I am involved with a project I just keep track of thing and then check of dates and timelines. The reminding part is the only part that I have to work at.

I usually know more about what is going on about projects that I have nothing to do with than the people who are supposed to be involved with them.

That's called "being female."

That is what you would think but I remind just as many females what to do as males.

Boy, do I feel ya on this. Sometimes I lie and say I don't know something just because I'm sick of being someone else's brain for them.

Exactly! The bad part is that I don't even try to remember this stuff, it just sticks so it isn't like I am making too much of an effort to remember all the details so it isn't a big deal to do the remembering part of things. However, it is annoying to have to explain it over and over. Also, to remind them that they promised to do something for someone.

That sounds a lot like what I did at my last job. For a while, I felt valued. Then I began to resent it because I was convinced that people became lazy about remembering their own tasks b/c they knew I'd remind them.

I sometimes feel that way. These feelings have become worse since I have realized that I am leaving. I am trying to set them up with a system without me actually reminding them and it is failing. My systems don't really help them. (I use outlook, post-it notes and my memory to do this).

I guess that when we go to hire my replacement that they are going to need someone that is good at keeping them on track. Ha!

Because some people just need more attention that others. LOL

I am not sure it is about attention. I think it is just that they focus on different things. I have a coworker that is an excellent programmer. However, I have to remind him to do something about 10 times through out the day because he will just get into whatever he is working on and then it will be 5pm. He is so good at focusing that he doesn't think about anything else other than what is in front of him.
