At what point do I stop feeling sleepy all day after cutting back my caffeine use? The only time I am not tired is between 10 and 3 when I have my one 20oz bottle of pop.
It took me several weeks and some rigorous exercise. I'd quit caffeine before I left for the Himalayas because I wasn't sure how readily available caffeine would be. For about the first week of the trip, I was so refreshed and well-rested every morning. Then, I discovered the chai shops.
I am not even going cold turkey, I am just cutting back a lot for the next couple weeks and then I am going to give up even more. I just miss being able to wake up in the morning or stay up late.
Not that I can talk (I'm currently as addicted as ever), but cold turkey seems like the way to go in order to really be able to feel refreshed. As it is, I currently consume 0-2 caffeinated beverages a day and... well... not ever bright-eyed.
The reason I am cutting back is that I am worried that caffeine withdrawl is causing some of my headaches (the ones on the weekend) and so I don't want to go cold turkey because I don't need a migraine.
I drank way more that than a day. I cut it in half and am down to one 20oz bottle (and decaf coffee, which I know has caffeine in it but I like the taste).
After cutting most/all of the caffeine out of my diet, it took a couple years to adjust my sleep patterns to where I wanted them. Then I got a job working nights. :(
I am not so worried about my sleep patterns taking as long as that. I just thought it would only take a couple days for me to get back to having a ton of energy. I can wait a couple more weeks until I taper down.
Yes, exercise, and do whatever you can to go to bed at a reaasonable hour at the same time every night, at least for a while. It's a pain, and can cramp your style for a little while, but you basically need to reteach your body how to sleep. If you're still having a lot of troubles with fatigue after a couple of months, talk to your doctor. Also, you may find you'll benefit more from going cold turkey.
I've been through caffeine withdrawal, and it's a pain, but it's vastly improved my life overall.
I have no problems sleeping and didn't even before I decided to cut back on caffeine. I was sleeping about 8 hours a night before cutting back and I am now sleeping about 9 or so. I think it is just a matter of getting used to the way my head feels without the aid of caffeine.
I can't go cold turkey since the whole reason I am doing this is because I rarely drink caffeine on the weekends and I think the caffeine withdrawal is one of my migraine triggers. Even just waiting until noon to have caffeine today brought one on.

If you stop completely and instead drink a ton of water and get lots of exercise, then a week or two.
