Headaches

Is it sad that I sort of like reading about Percy Harvin missing a game because of a migraine? Here is a guy that is in great shape, has a lot of money riding on him not missing work and many more doctors to look at him than I do yet it seems like he has the same problems controlling them that I do.

Yeah, I'm impressed as hell that you manage to hold a job down. I don't think I could. Sometimes my migraines cross my speech wires, and I can only move my bottom lip, but not speak. During those, calling in sick would be the furthest thing from my mind. I just wouldn't show up, and they'd fire me.

I usually email in when I have a migraine. It makes it so much easier. Plus, most of the time, when I call in for a migraine I make up the hours over the week which tends to put me in the good graces of bosses.

I have been in meetings where I have said something and it is total gibberish. So, I usually just keep my mouth shut when I have one because I know I am not going to make sense. Plus the ibuprofen, caffeine, and naproxen sodium thing can hold off a migraine until I get home and can take better medication.

I am also really good at what I do and found a place where people were easy to train into understanding "I had a headache right now, will you email me about that so I don't forget?". It was such a pain that was working as a cashier at a store while I was in school, I worried about getting fired all the time.

I'm lucky that I'm "just" a stay-at-home mom now with my migraines. Some days, I can barely just do the errands and keep the kids alive. I feel like much less of a person than I used to be before they appeared. Luckily, they're more controlled in frequency than they were a year ago.

That is one of my fears about having children. How do I take care of them while I have a headache?

You just ...do. Some days, I use the TV more than I like. Luckily, kids do understand that Mommy's head hurts. I find amazing pools of resources to get them to their activities, but I cut back on my own.
