I hate it for the most part. Riding my bike is new and novel so that is fun, for now.

exactly. i can do new and novel, which means I am pretty good at riding my bike for most of the summer but then it becomes a chore.

I really want to go on this hike this summer and I am worried I am not going to get in shape for it. :(

You just need to do some training. Afton State Park is nice and hilly- good place to practice.
