I really want a new ipod. I have an orginal shuffle that is three years old and lately it has been really annoying to me that I can't play specific things when I want to hear them (mostly the MIT OpenCourseWare lectures). So I was thinking about getting an ipod nano.

I have no idea!

LOL. That is ok, you don't need to have an opinion.

I have the money, just I don't like spending my savings.

It's funny how that works, isn't it? The more money I get in my saving account, the more I want in it, and the less money I want to spend. I think I'm seriously addicted to putting money in my saving account!

I'm thinking of getting something like an ipod, but I might one w/ a radio, and ipods don't come with that option. Also, I'm cheap!

I know, I am cheap too but I have wanted one for ages.

Honestly, look outside what Apple has to offer. iPods cost more than other players and have less features, and lock you into using iTunes. Recently they've removed the ability to use them as mass storage devices, too.

If you're OK with all that, then by all means, go for it. (:

I don't care about being locked into itunes and I never used them as a mass storage device.

This is what I want:
1. Something that is easy to use. I don't want to mess around with it
2. Good battery life, I don't want to have to be always worrying about charging it.
3. Video. I like that I would be able to watch TV shows on it if I wanted to.

I don't want to research this to death, I just want something I know will work and I can find quick answers if there is a problem.

Well if you want video get an iPod touch. Bigger screen!

too much money for what you get compared to the iphone. I can't justify it right now.

I do love the iphone though.

My only problem with an iPhone is it can't hold all my music. An iPod can. I almost got a Classic just cause more space. If you OK with a random shuffle (or you only have 16g of music) then get an iPhone! (:

i don't want the phone part of the phone. I want the trickle down of the new phone features. :)

Also, I might be able to get my work to get me one.

Which features? The iPod Touch has practically all of them, except the phone bits.

No camera, no external speaker and no GPS.

The GPS one is a big one for me.

I have one, I never remember to use it. :P

I'm really not a huge fan of All In One devices. I mean, you combine a phone with a camera with a GPS and you get a mediocre phone, a mediocre camera and a mediocre GPS.

me either, however, I love the idea of an itouch with gps. I don't care about the camera in it. Still, I don't think I see the itouch as an mp3 player so much as a movie/internet thing. Hence why I want a nano that can play little movies.

You can use the GPS to play MP3's..:)

I know, I just forget to bring it with me and I don't like leaving it in the car.

Plus my parents sort of took it over.

Absolutely.. and when the battery runs out you don't have a phone, a camera or a GPS.

See, that is sort of what I am thinking, maybe I should wait until the next generation of the itouch because I am hoping it had the GPS in it.

No! If you want GPS get a GPS. Cell phone/ipod/iphone GPS are rubbish.

I have an ipod touch and can highly recommend it.

I love mine. I got the 4 GB for Christmas and it's nice for running. I can do a playlist or just put it on shuffle.

Now if I wanted all my music, I would definitely need something larger but it works for most of my music needs.

I am not that into music. I like listening to books/lectures and watching video. Sometimes I want to listen to music but that is pretty rare.

Of course you shouldn't buy a nano. You should buy the big classic or the touch or stick with your shuffle.

I want a touch a lot but it just doesn't seem worth it. I mean, it isn't just the gps (which i would like but it is mostly the price).

With your bankroll? ;-)

I love mine. It gets a full product endorsement from me. The browser is brilliant. The screen is gorgeous.

Yeah but think how much that $350 would be in 33 years! :P

You are not helping, I want it so much.

In 33 years, your investment will be worth $497.

HA HA HA HA.

I voted no, because I'd just go ahead and get the classic. Also I don't know what the above commenter was talking about - you can still use it as a storage device; you turn on disk mode (it's one checkbox). Only the flash-based ones don't work as storage devices as far as I know.

I know you aren't using it for that but I felt the need to say that. :P

Is the classic that much better? Eric has one but I haven't played with it much.

It's got more storage space, that's for sure. I don't see me filling mine up before they come out with a new model, which is something that I did do when I had a mini and, after that, a nano. I also like the screen for watching video a bit more.

However, as a hard drive based model, you'll experience the occasional pause from time to time as the hard drive spins up. It's worth the tradeoff, IMO.

hmm... i will have to go play with them at the store. the nano screen is really little.

From: [identity profile] ctakahara.livejournal.com
Yeah. It's sharp, and for watching just regular movies or TV shows or whatever it'd be fine... but take my advice, and don't try to watch anything with subtitles on the iPod nano. Sheesh!

Date: 2008-07-24 03:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com
LOL.

Yeah, the itouch seems much better for sub-titles.
