Weekend

Jun. 1st, 2010 10:29 am
This weekend was pretty good. Friday I made a whole chicken in a crockpot. It was a little greasy (you were right Amy) and a little overcooked. The next time I do it I'll put it up on a rack and cook it on a day that I am not at work so it doesn't cook for 8 hours. However, it was really good in soup. Plus I made broth so it wasn't terrible.

Saturday I was up really early (like 6:30am). I cleaned and puttered. Then I went to the gym. After that Zach and I went to Menards to get light fixtures to replace the ugly ones in my house. We also bought a lot of toys for the cats. Then it was nap time. Afterwards we went to the bookstore and bought lots of books. It was fun! Finally I installed a light in Zach's closet.

Sunday we went to Sam's Club with my parents. My dad came over and showed Zach how to do electrical work (ALWAYS MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF). We changed two fixtures, one outlet and painted one fixture. I am making progress on my summer list, even if I added stuff to it. I think the next set of items to do is the woodwork in Eric's bathroom then the crown molding in all the rooms that need it. Oh, and if anyone knows how to install hinges and a door knob and likes homemade ice cream, I would trade you ice cream for your time.

After we finished housework we went to dinner at Jax Cafe. I had a Groupon for this and I had been looking forward to dinner there for two months. However, it wasn't very good at all. The wait staff was really good but the food took forever to get to us so this meant that a couple people at our table had to go to the bathroom twice during dinner. When we finally got our food it was really disappointing. Either it was overcooked or just off. My sister-in-law got scallops and I had a bite and they were fishy tasting. You shouldn't have fishy tasty scallops. Argh. Of course we were too Minnesotan to complain but I don't think we will be going back for dinner. It was too bad because we have gone for brunch and really enjoyed it.

Monday I slept in. When I woke up Zach announced that he wanted to go to the mall. We went and ate crepes for breakfast and shopped. We bought a popcorn popper. I bought a new shirt, some yoga pants, a new skirt and a new bra. Zach got a new game and some movies. Then we left because I was having cramps so bad that I couldn't stand up anymore. I took a bath, read some of my book and just relaxed.

All-in-all a nice low key long weekend.
Another house for sale on my parents block. The one next door to my parents, which was in pretty bad shape, was for sale for $50,000. This one is for sale for $79,900 and is next door to the house that my brother bought. The really nicely redone house is for sale for $179,900 and is on the other side of my brother's house.

On this same block there is also a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo for $159,900.

This housing market is completely insane.

Talents

I have a talent for keeping track of things that need to be done and then reminding the people that need to do them to do them.

Sometimes I feel valued and sometimes I wonder why they can't do it themselves.
