Migraine Question

Hey, people that get migraines. I just got back with a new neurologist and she seemed concerned that I only ever get migraines on my left side. So, I was wondering. Do you get migraine only on one side of your head or does it happen on the other side of your head sometimes.

I don't ever remember having a migraine on the right side.

I don't get mine on one side or the other. Mine are usually in the middle behind my eyes. And my tension headaches are always smack in the middle at the base of my skull where it meets the spine.

Mine are under/behind my left eye. Not really "in the middle".

My migraines are usually in the front of my head.

Between your eyes? Mine are under/behind my left eye and sort makes the whole top of my cheek hurt.

Usually they span my forehead, behind my eyes.

I traditionally get my migraines on the right side behind my right eye that make my cheeks hurt and spread to the forehead. Sometimes, they are bilateral.

However, according to like every definition I've read, migraines can be both unilateral or bilateral.

Yeah, that is what I have read also. However, she is the doctor that has been doing this for a long time so I am going to trust her, I just thought it was odd.

Because I always get them on one side she is going to do an MRI of my neck to rule some other stuff out.

I think a scan is always a good thing to rule things out.

I can't really describe it in terms of "where" - I guess if you forced me to say where I thought the migraine was, I'd say it's a very blurry cloud somewhere behind my nasal cavity, often spreading into my jaw. Or sometimes it just feels like my whole head is exploding.

My migraines are more "what" than "where" - rather than being able to say "it's behind my eye" or whatever, it's more like "this is a visuals one" or "this is a paralysis one." Not all my migraines even involve pain.

Yeah, the pain isn't even the big issue for me. The topamax has really helped with many of the non-pain parts of the migraines. It is so nice. However, I can "feel" it in the left side of my head but not in the right side. Not always pain but sensation. I rub my eye a lot and my left nostril feels stuffed up.

When I get my much-rarer-and-a-lot-less-intense-than-yours migraines, they're a whole-head kinda thing.

If I get a headache on one side of my head it means I have a tension headache and they are a son of bitch to get rid of afraid.
