Stephan King

I would make this a lj poll except I am sure it would leave out a book. What I want to know is what is your favorite Stephan King story and why. It can be anything he has done.

PS I change my mind, The Shawshank Redemption doesn't count. Everyone loves that one.

The Shining.

I loved how the story was both about a haunted house and telepathy. And elevators still kinda creep me out.

The movie or the book. I haven't read the book just seen the movie.

The book. It's a great read.

Well, I love the movie as well. They're very different. Kubrick always gets the novelist into the screenplay credits, but he subverts the movie to his vision/theme.

Jack Torrence in the book is a better character than in the movie. He's a decent fellow, yet a flawed alcoholic writer, who gets manipulated by the hotel. In the movie, he's a dick right from the start.

There was a decent mini-series based on the book, with the one brother from Wings, and Rebecca DeMornay. It was good, but forgettable.

Eyes of the Dragon. I just really liked his fairy tale style.

I haven't read any of those. I tend to stay away from Fantasy/Fairy Tale in general. I am not sure why.

Definitely the Bachman Books (before he wrote pulp fiction). Specifically "The Long Walk".

I like the Bachman books better than his other stories. I need to reread "The Long Walk" since a couple people have liked it so much.

Pet Sematary was my favorite book. Who hasn't lost a loved one and sworn they would do anything to have them back? If you've only seen the movie you're missing out on alot.

IT was probably a close second. Both sucked as movies.

Christine, The Green Mile and Misery were probably the best movie adaptations. The Shining...yeah it was good. But Kathy Bates rocked in Misery.

Thinner was my favorite of the Richard Bachman books. And The Dark Half was a nice play on that whole Bachman back story.

Too many to choose just one.

Oh! Pet Sematary. I forgot about that one. It was so creepy.

Agreed on The Long Walk. One of the best books I've ever read, and I'm not being facetious.

I have read it but not for 15 years or so. I might pick that up and reread it.

I need to read that. I might get that tonight.

THE STAND. Hands down. So terrifying. Followed by MISERY and CARRIE. Then THE SHINING.

I love "The Stand". I am going to reread it soon. I haven't read "Misery" or "The Shining" so I am going to read both of those too.

"The Long Walk" is good. I like the Richard Bachman stories a lot. Much creepier.

I don't think I have read the fantasy ones. I tend to stay away from fantasy.

The Langoliers.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that a book or just a movie?

[identity profile] ctakahara.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a short story, or maybe more accurately a novella - whatever you call it, it's the first story in Four Past Midnight (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Past_Midnight).

I like his column in Entertainment Weekly.

I didn't even know he had one. Hmm...

Firestarter.
