(no subject)

sometimes i forget this but i really love what i do.

i love that feeling of a damn good web app.

i still want a t-shirt that says "i <3 databases" though the "talk nerdy to me" might just be better.

Hmm, so are you almost entirely a database person?

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)

I'm asking because we have this huge situation at work, where we have this database that needs... um... fixing. And I'm thinking it would probably beeasier to start over, rather than try to fix an old one. It's a mess. Wondering how much database people charge for a project like htat.

What kind of database and waht does it do?

[identity profile] sharya.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Erm, it's pretty multi-functional.

It's an Access dbase, and it keeps track of contact information (you should see how they currently have it set up... it's brutal), study information in terms of dates (of approvals and submissions and stuff), study information in terms of budget stuff... and yeah Probably more, but that's the only part I use.

i don't know what they charge up there but you should be able to get a contractor to come and clean it up. i have done that a couple times for this consulting company i worked for. basically what they would do is figure out what you are doing with it, what doesn't work and then rewrite it so it works better.

though, i have cleaned up after too many bad access developers in the past to say that you would get someone that would be good at it. :\

How would a person know if they're any good? What should a person look for? We're currently pretty directionless right now (no director), and frighteningly enough, I'm the one who knows the most about these things at work :/
