Party planning

I am debating throwing a party the weekend before Valentine's day where we would make truffles and watch Cleopatra.

The thing is I have never made truffles before. Hmm...

You have like three months to practice!

It's messy. Have fun. :-)

Or, if you want it a little less messy, my friend Ford made these things for the cookie exchange I went to on Sunday, they were like truffles turned on their ear. Started out truffle-ish--melted chocolate and sour cream--but then he blended in chocolate cookies that had been food-processed to dust, basically. (He further decorated them to look like tiny mice.) They were the hit of the party. I could try to get the recipe for you if you like.

My little niece makes these cheater-truffles that are basically:

Blend cream cheese with crushed oreos. Roll into balls. Freeze. Dip them in a chocolate shell. Dip again for a thicker layer.

They're really good--and so easy a 10 year old can make them!

I made these last year at Christmas. Very easy AND fun.

Thing is, Cleopatra is a four-hour-long movie. So we wouldn't need to do something quick and easy. We'll have time to do long and complicated!

Even with lots of time, complicated projects require concentration and long attention spans. Which likely won't be present at a party, with a movie on, and (mostly likely) with wine being consumed. Plus if the truffles are easy-ish to make then more time can be spent decorating them- or just eating them.

or making more flavors!

I used mint oreos in mine to make minty truffles. But there are so many options!

I'd help with truffles!
