Space Invader Quilt

This year for Convergence I want to enter a quilt in the Art Show . I think it would be interesting to keep track of the cost of making a quilt, both in time and in fabric costs. I would start the bidding for the quilt at the price of the fabric which I estimate to be around $170. I am not sure if anyone would buy a quilt for that much but I think it is going to look pretty awesome.

The quilt is going to have a giant space invader on it and will be about 6'5" square.




Anyways, I am doing the background in a dark gray and I was thinking about this fabric line for the space invader squares:



Each of the squares would be done in patchwork so the space invader would be even more pixelated. I am not sure about the color, I love the oranges, yellows and pinks but Zach seemed to think the orange wasn't so nice.

I wouldn't like that orange on its own, but in conjunction with the other two colours it's pretty awesome.

That is how I feel. I think the three colors together look awesome and will really pop against that dark gray background.

Have seen quilts going for way more that are no where near as cool and since it's an art show it's perfect.

Quilts are expensive to make. I am not sure how people can make a living selling them!

It's not that I didn't like orange, but the combo you had sketched out on googledocs looked kind of weird. I'm sure it'll be better when it's not all one solid orange color.

Ah! That makes sense.

I am not sure if I should make it so "girly" but I have a feeling that girl geeks are more likely to buy a quilt than guy geeks.

Not so into quilting myself, but how about a Q-Bert quilt made with flannel complete with velcro backed Q-Bert cutout to move around the board?
