Last Night

Last Night [livejournal.com profile] gwangi and I went to my company's holiday party. That was, well, okay. However, on the way to the holiday party we were driving there and were stopped at a red light (going west on 31st and Chicago for the locals) when I looked up from the directions to see an SUV pull out from behind us and then take a right hand turn on to Chicago speeding off. Then I hear Zach say "That guy just hit a biker". She was okay but her bike wasn't both her wheels were bent, her pedal was on the ground and her derailleur will never work again. The car behind the SUV also stopped and called 911 so soon the police were there and the biker got the license plate.

We learned from the biker girl that the SUV driver had yelled at her a block earlier "Ride on the side walk" and had intentionally hit when she rode her bike up next to him at the red light. Seriously? WTF?

I carry a bike rack in my trunk since Zach bike commutes so we convinced the girl that we could give her a lift home.

I am very thankful that Zach doesn't ride on city streets very much.

Also, I have a migraine so this is rather disjointed writing. I am sorry.

Jesus. WTF is wrong with people?

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean the crazy ones who bike around when it's 10 degrees and snowing?

I hope he has a record, and this is his third strike, and he gets locked up. Stupid people.

Um, wow, that's incredibly scary!!! I sometimes don't understand just what is wrong with people...

[identity profile] avecvu.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, that is so fucked up.

[identity profile] all-hail-duke.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
sigh. double sigh. go good samaritan, though.

I'm glad she got his license plate. What the hell?

some people are so messed up.

[identity profile] damncutekitty.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF? The SUV driver hit her on purpose? What a douche.

I hope he gets charged with attempted murder or something ridiculous like that.

[identity profile] i12bmore.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely should be attempted manslaughter, whatever kind of charge that would be, but it will be charged, if at all, much lower than that.

I am glad that you guys were there to help the "biker girl" home to safety after the accident occurred.

Entitlement. I always say that the right of way in America goes to the one with the greatest perceived wealth: cars > busses > bikes > pedestrians. And people wonder why I cross the street like everyone's trying to hit me...

[identity profile] bubblemonkey.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are people so offended by bike riders? Geeze!

[identity profile] i12bmore.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Privilege. See what I wrote above.

[identity profile] bubblemonkey.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
People are ridonkulous.

[identity profile] i12bmore.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, the crazy thing about this is the ignorance of the driver, in that, generally speaking, it's *illegal* to ride on the sidewalk. (The laws to that are a little quirky, but I'm sure you and Zach know them.)

[identity profile] heathrow.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit. I'm so sorry that bike rider was assaulted.

[identity profile] phoenixredux.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF? Raised by wolves much?
