Dad Update

My dad is done with chemo and radiation and has been for a few weeks. Last week he had his last appointment with the oncologist until January when they check to see if they got rid of the tumor completely.* Last night he sat and ate dinner with us for the first time in months. He didn't eat much but he had a couple bites of everything which was pretty cool to see.

He is pretty easily tired out right now and the doctors tell him that it will take 3 or 4 months before he is back to his regular energy level. This sort of sucks because he is bored with TV but doing anything is just too much for him right now. Yesterday he folded the clothes and then had to take a two hour nap.

Serinia bought Wii Fitness Plus so Dad could track his weight and would have short exercises to do through out the day until he gets enough energy to get on the treadmill. When my dad went through the initial setup the wii told him that he was overweight and needed to lose 20 pounds. That was the funniest moment of the night since we are using it to track his weight to help him gain the 20 pound pounds that the doctor has ordered him to gain in the next two months.

BTW, the Wii also told Jens that he wasn't his "ideal" weight because his BMI was at 22.65 instead of 22. He needed to lose 4 pounds!!

*They wait that long because they want to wait until all the cells they killed are reabsorbed by the body

That sounds like good news to me.

A few years ago I paid an obscene amount of money to join a weight loss program. I was aiming for 170-180, but they insisted that the ideal weight for my height (5' 7") is 127.

The Wii told me that my ideal weight is 145. I am 170 right now and I am happy with that. If I worked out I would lose 10 pounds.

I think this stuff is stupid, I maintain my weight easily and am not unhealthy so why worry about it?

"Ideal" is so subjective. How funny that it's 20 pounds each way though! Sounds like a good way to get him moving, though. Clever Serinia!

I do think it is funny that they thought he was overweight when his doctors are so conserned about how much he has lost!

BMI is bullshit

*hugs*

I have taken to using the Wii Fit with the volume turned off. I hate the little voice telling me I'm overweight. :P

I am glad to hear your dad is feeling better. :)
