Quilting

I decided to take a quilting class this fall. I actually decided to do it last spring when I thought that [livejournal.com profile] gwangi would be in the army so I would have something to fill my time up with and decided it would still be a good idea to do.

I went to the Quilt shop by my house and signed up for the Beginning Rotary Star Sampler class. It is the prefect level class for me. We are learning how to cut fabric with a rotary cutter and how to sew complicated blocks. There is a good amount of homework every week so I feel like I am learning on my own with someone that is guiding me.

My first blocks. I only needed four but I made six because I figured I needed the practice. They were fun to make. I am not sure I like the green fabric but we'll see when the quilt is finished.
Nine Square

The insides to a block! I made this really quick and it worked out! I was so excited! I wonder if I should have cut the inner block on the bias so it would have been lined up better but we didn't learn how to do that. Not that it would have been hard to do.
Inner Wheel of Time Variation

My first big block. I have a couple seams that are off but that is okay, no one is going to notice when it is done. I really like how it turned out. I like the colors a lot.
Finished Rising Star

I have another quilt block that should be done tonight and I have a third cut out and ready to sew at our next class. I really like this.

Those look great! I love quilts. I wish I had the patience to make them.

I second this comment.

We have a king-size bed, so it would be just that much more work to make a quilt.

Did you see the Dragon Quilt at CONvergence in the Silent Auction room? It was AMAZING. I have this thing about dragons... I really want a quilt like that!

I did see it and it was very cool. However, I don't think I'll be making anything that complicated for a while. Ha! My next quilt is going to be for my sister and is going going to be pretty easy.

You should try a class, I was scared that I wouldn't be able to do it but this class really is making it easy.

I don't understand how you have time to quilt, when there's Civ5 worlds to conquer!

Which raises the question: should those be in hex, now? Haha!

PS. very cool.

I was just commenting to Zach that I am sad to see that all my unemployed friends updating their facebook with "playing civ5" while I am getting ready to go to bed because I have to go to work. SIGH

The quilting class sounds fun! I'd love to do that someday.
