The thing is, he almost has a point. (Doing research on the ugandan aids commission). Reducing partners/exposures seems to be a more achievable goal than universal condom use. At least it was in Uganda (the part of sub-Saharan Africa that has apparently had one of the most, if not the most, effective responses to HIV.

I agree. Condoms have to be used and used correctly to work but the idea that you shouldn't study people's sexuality just because you think you already know what "works" is just so foreign to me. If it really worked we wouldn't have anyone that thought about doing a study on this issue. Plus, what is "deviant"? Who decides that and at what point does even sex between a monogamous heterosexual couple became deviant? Also, what if the whole idea of something being deviant is part of your sexuality? People aren't going to stop doing things just because they are risky.

I don't know too much about Uganda's response to AIDS but if I am thinking correctly it had a lot to do with behavior changes and education. Or did they do something different?
