Car

$9400 of damage.

It turns out I was hitting the brakes when I hit her which is nice to know. They can tell because if I hadn't hit my brakes the nose wouldn't have gone down and I would have hit her with my bumper and there would have been different damage. Funny that they can tell that. Even funnier that I honestly can't remember much other than looking over my shoulder to see if someone was in my blind spot, looking up to see a car stopped, hearing a lot of crashing noise and yelling "FUCK" when the airbag went off.

Anyways, the accident didn't touch the frame which I had a feeling that it didn't when I drove it off the freeway because if I hadn't been driving with a deployed airbag I wouldn't have known my car had been in an accident. Now I am waiting to hear from the shop to see what the next step is. I am pretty sure it is waiting for them to repair it for the next month, paying them $750 dollars and then seeing my insurance rates go up. Oh well.

Is MN a no-fault state?

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What does that mean? Property division independent of the reason for divorce?

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It means you're allowed to file for divorce without saying someone's to blame or that you have a reason.

Not saying you're not ALLOWED to blame the hell out of each other, just that you don't have to.

In Ontario, you can divorce without reason after a year of separation. Earlier if abuse or adultery were involved.

If abuse or adultery were involved, it's not really without a reason!

so I guess Ontario isn't no-fault.

However (bringing this back to Bertine), our auto insurance is.

I've never heard of auto insurance NOT trying to blame, well, everyone in the entire universe.

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Your rates go up, regardless of blame.

$9400? You beat my record!

Then again mine was in 2003 dollars.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The airbag is expensive!

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet, and I also bet they're not nearly as much fun as they look!

I would suggest making sure you aren't driving with your arm over the airbag. My arm is the only sore part on me now.

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What was your arm doing on the airbag? Or was it a side airbag?

[identity profile] melissa-maples.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why they tell people with airbags to grip the wheel at the bottom, underhanded, at 8 and 4 rather than 10 and 2. That way your hands just fall in your lap.

In driving school we had to watch all sorts of horrendous videos of people who shattered their wrists on their foreheads or cracked their cheekbones with their knuckles from airbag force. Not pretty.

Wow. This whole thing just hurts. I'm sorry.

[identity profile] patrickwonders.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I'd have thought the car computer would cache the state of everything when the airbag deploys: were brakes engaged? were headlights on? was windshield wet? current gear and rpms? etc.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I got off the phone with the bodyshop and it turns out that they knew it because of the computer and not just because of the damage. I wondered about that. It is pretty cool the info my car knows. Also, the airbag is smart so it goes off because of lots of different reasons and not just speed.

Sometimes massage therapists can tell what direction you were looking in when the accident occurred based on the location and type of muscle injury.

I'm so sorry.
