Annoyed

On Sunday I went to brunch at Bryant Lake Bowl with my siblings. My share of the brunch was $13.50, which I paid for with my card. The tip was paid in cash. I just checked my account and they charged me $16.20, which is 13.50+20%. I am trying to decide if I am going to call over $2.70 or not.

How many siblings do you have?

And on the credit card slip, assuming you had one, did you make sure to put a line through the tip space? I always do if I leave a cash tip; I'm paranoid.

I usually do put a line through the tip section but I had a migraine so I do wonder if I forgot.

I have three siblings. Two brothers and a sister.

Okay, so it's not like a crazy-large party of eight or anything where they'd automatically add a gratuity.

If you had a migraine it's very possible you forgot to mark through it. That's still kind of a shitty thing for them to do; there was a tip on the table, so it's not like you "forgot" to tip.

Nope, and that would have been on the check itself.

[livejournal.com profile] jwright_71673 had a good point. It is still in the pending section.

I've noticed a couple of weird things when checking my account for recently made restaurant purchases. More often than not, while the transaction is still "pending," it'll be in there for the amount minus the tip. I used to see this at the Uptown, but haven't in a while -- while the transaction is pending it'll be in there with exactly 15 percent added on, and eventually it changes to the exact amount I paid.

So there's a chance it might get adjusted off eventually on its own, I guess.

And yes, I check all my account balances daily. I'm kind of weird like that. :-)

OH!!!! I'll see if that is it because it is still "pending". I also check mine daily because I don't really balance my accounts but I do keep track of them that way.

I think this is the right answer. Last time I did Bar Abilene brunch, the bill was $68. I indicated a $10 tip (it's a buffet, the server didn't do anything). The pending transaction was $81.60, and the final transaction is $78. Kinda annoying, I agree.

Also, I would think it's theoretically possible to get charged an overdraft fee when you've actually got enough money. I mean, now and then I've gone down to a dollar or two in my account, you know? (In which case I probably shouldn't even BE at a restaurant, but whatever...)

A lot of them say "Gratuity of x% will be added automatically" and crap like that.

It all turned out.

Off topic but how is BLB's brunch?

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2009-06-17 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty good. The portain sizes are smaller than usual but I liked that because I don't feel bad about eating everything. I had a "scrambler" which was excellent.

LOL, I don't think any of us would be ones to go to Lane Bryant. :P
