What is it about a fever that makes your skin look so good?

I went to my parents house to watch cable for awhile and Stephan King's The Stand was on. The mini-series is okay but I think I want to reread the book. I remember it being really good.

My mom made me malt-o-meal. This is the best comfort food ever. Too bad it didn't stay down. Sigh.

Today I missed two meetings I was looking forward to.

I did all my laundry and started dusting before I made myself relax and read a book (which I promptly fell asleep doing). I am no good at being ill.

I wish I had some oj and/or chocolate milk and/or buttered toast.

Yeah well a day off for you is a) torture, b)stressfull,c)another name for an anxiety attack (I mean that in the nicest way, you're just a workaholic)I don't get thanksgiving, no turkey or stuffing or cranberries..we have all that but just not in the traditional sense, plus it's way too hot in the end of November to cook a turkey..

I just hate missing work. I like what I do and feel bad asking others to pick up my slack.

I am getting two or three turkey dinners this year. I am excited! Plus a birthday brunch that I am having at my place. :)

The Stand mini-series would have been better if it didn't look so cheap. The acting wasn't so bad but some of the scenes are so like youtube vidoes.

It's been a long time. The beginning was really good, if I recall.

But floating head? Not cool. Maybe Woody Allen could pull it off, but this did not work.

I forgot how good Rob Lowe was in it. Nick was my favorite character in the novel and he did a good job with it. The whole good part of that book was all the set up it did. Dammit, I need to read it again.

Oh, plus Harold (the creepy kid from Maine) was played by one of my favorite characters from Stargate so that was weird.

Parker Lewis was on Stargate? I always wondered that happened to him.

Yeah. Lowe was really good. It was a bit of a career saver, I believe. M-o-o-n spells child-porn.

I recall the dark haired bitch, (the actress from Becker) was pretty good.

King is all buildup buildup buildup, character character character, and then some lame-o climax ruins it.

I agree with the way you descibe king. Like IT. So very good at build up and then blah. Still, The Stand was all about build up. If he had just blown up Las Vegas and left it there it would have been fine.

I think I missed the whole point. Why did those four "good" people have to die? And if it was to save everyone, the people back at the farm didn't know what happened.

Oh wait. Didn't the freaking "HAND OF GOD" detonate the warhead? Yuck.

I read his "On Writing" which pretty much has him admit, he writes these things in a linear fashion. Fair enough, I'm not in a position to tell him how to write. I actually don't want to commit to reading the novel, because I don't want to have the disappointment.

I haven't read anything by him, except "On Writing" since I was a teenager. I remember I raced through them all. The thing is that he writes such good believable characters. I want to know what happens to them in the situations that he puts them in but it never seems to pan out.

Yeah, the third part of "The Stand" was messy.

I think that the whole plan to begin with was that Stu was going to be spared. So if he was spared, he would see the mushroom cloud and then would relay back what happened. I don't know, 'God's Plan' or something, I got a little lost with the religion stuff. as I mentioned somewhere else in all this STAND talk, I completely forgot how preachy it gets at the end.

Why is it that Stephen King can very rarely 'stick an ending'(as a friend and I put it)? I can think of a few he does, and I think over all I can forgive the end of THE STAND because of the amazing story he told beforehand. But some of his stories (IT comes to mind) just end poorly.

Exactly. Both "It" and "The Stand" has blah endings but are worth reading because they are so good at setup.

I remember my Dad telling me to watch THE STAND when I was about thirteen or fourteen. I really really liked it. I think that the most harrowing part of it is the very beginning, when the camera pans through the test compound, and all those dead bodies are there, while DON'T FEAR THE REAPER plays. I do think that it kind of became a little preachy by the end. Plus, I always kind of rooted for Nadine, as I found her to be a very interesting character. Gah, I should read that book again.
