How is it possible that I'll sunburn myself walking around Lake Calhoun at 6pm after having covered myself in SPF 40 sunblock but laying on the beach at 2 pm WITH NO SUNBLOCK ON doesn't even make me pink?

So, I am just as pasty in my brand new swimsuit as I was when I tried it on. I am just as chubby but I have decided to not let that stop me from wearing it.

I like it! Also, I guess it takes a couple hours for your skin to react to the sun so I am getting a little bit of pinkness (but not a burn). YAY!! I just want a little color, not a deep tan.
