My New Goal

Yesterday I decided to ride my bike every day for 30 days. Today was day two, I went to the grocery store and bought bagels and cat treats. It was exciting. Tomorrow I might ride to dairy queen since I am not very good at just riding for the fun of it, I need a purpose.

I like goals.

Yeah, I usually wear them.

i've been thinking about getting my bike tuned up, good for you.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
do it! then we can go for a bike ride down by you! I want to try the trails there. It would also give me a reason to buy a car bike rack that I have wanted forever

you're on. i'll ask chris to drop my bike off this week, there's a penn cycle right by us.

ooh that sounds like fun.

If it gets to 100 degrees I am skipping it, otherwise I think I can do it.

Go Bertine! I didn't get out today, but I've made a goal to bike more too. It's fun, isn't it?

If you want a good rack but don't want to shell out big bucks for a new one, check out Capital Deals over on St Paul's West Side. They have all sorts of good used and new bike equipment at great prices. This is the direct link to the page of used racks for sale. They'll help you get it put on your car, too.

Oh nice! I need to go there and look at that place. I was going to craigslist one but this is better.

It's seriously an awesome shop. They have all sorts of stuff there, not just bikes, so it's worth checking out.

I started cycling to work last week.
I hadn't been out since October, so 9 miles was enough to kill me. But it's good to challenge yourself with a hill here and there to develop new butt muscles, then the rest will seem easy. \^.^/

It's pretty win-win when you look at gas prices too.

9 miles each way? I wish I could just commit to riding to work. It is 15 miles each way through North Minneapolis. If there was a good bus route to get to work I would do it but I really hate mornings.

[identity profile] ludomancer.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya, I lucked out on the route-- it's exclusive bike trail the whole way (Midtown greenway + Mississippi parkway).

There are bike lanes in a lot of places though, the park and rec site has some detailed PDF maps.

Yeah, I looked at the trails to my work, it is 18 miles if I took them. BLAH

Yeah, I like having a goal-oriented bike ride, too. It's one of the many reasons I try to bike commute. That, and I HATE driving.

:)

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
How long is your commute? Sometimes I think I am just a wimp when it comes to my commute.

[identity profile] bella-phenomena.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's about 9 miles one-way. I don't usually bike the whole way, though. I've done the whole thing both ways once or twice, but with the 50 hour weeks, I haven't had the energy. I usually do a combination of busing and biking. Still much cheaper than driving these days, but it takes a little more time and planning.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It is funny, I did the math and it is still cheaper for me to drive than take the bus since my company doesn't have a bus pass program and my car gets really good gas miliage.

I would love a bus/bike option. That would be nice. Hmm... Maybe if I looked at the buses not to get out here but to get me closer.

[identity profile] bella-phenomena.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it works much better than way, to do a bus / bike commute. The bus is cool and all, but it's very limited to have to stick to stuff close to the routes. It's nice to have a few miles ley-way (sp) on each side.

I figure that it only costs $4 round trip for me to take the bus to work. And I'm pretty sure that it would cost at least a gallon of gas, not to mention all the wear and tear on the car.

It kindof depends on what your commute is.

If you bike down the greenway, you end up in Hopkins.
