Lunch (10 years ago)

Today I am craving what I ate for lunch at the theatres when I could afford it. I would go to Big City Bagels (aka Bagel Hut) and get a salted bagel with pepperjack cheese over it and lettuce, tomato and onion on it.

I want that so badly right now. Too bad Big City Bagel isn't even there anymore.

That sounds tasty. Or rather, it would sound tasty if I were not feeling so queasy.

Oh, I forgot the best part. They would put a pickle in it and wrap it all up.

I MISS IT SO MUCH.

i MISS BAGELS...WE GET A CRUDE ATTEMPT AT THEM HERE AND EVEN THEN THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SALMON CREAM CHEESE AND CAPERS BIT

I don't think I have a bagel like that ever. :P

you don't know what your missing...then again you don't venture out on the freaky foods much (eaten any oysters lately?)

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I am from Minnesota, we don't really do freaky foods. :P (nope)

[identity profile] joeylemur.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Freaky is relative. :)

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No one actually eats that. :P

I bet Bjarne Henry Henriksen does...

my mind is wandering to a lutefisk bento box

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Or a swedish one? It could have pickled herring in it.

[identity profile] eyelikebigbutts.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
or a hairy pickle

I'm so pissed that Bruegger's don't have pepperjack anymore! I've asked them if I can bring my own cheese in, but they seemed... less than enthusiastic.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruegger's had pepperjack? I didn't know that. I don't think I have been to Bruegger's (or had a bagel) in years.

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They used to until about 6 months ago, but they said it's "not very popular." Apparently muenster cheese IS popular. I don't know where they're getting that from...

Brueggers is really the only fast food kinda place I go to anymore. It's kinda like a Friday Tradition thing.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a love of chipotle. I swear they put something in it to make you crave it. Otherwise I am too cheap to eat at fast food places.

How is muenster more popular than pepperjack?

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no chipotle anywhere near me, so the temptation is marginal. Also I hear there's beef fat in the beans.

I too questioned the muenster thing, and they said something about how it's popular everywhere except "down south", where the most popular cheese is provolone.

Personally I think they need a new research company.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The have beef fat in the pinto beans but not the black beans. However, I don't worry about that stuff too much.

I actually like provolone a lot but for a sandwich I would prefer pepperjack melted over a bagel with the veggies squished into it.

[identity profile] sterlingphoenix.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have a problem with provolone, I just don't buy that people in Alabama are going "Where's ma provolone?" at Brueggers.
