condo update

My neighbors moved out on Tuesday night and I took possession then. That first night I cleaned a little, explored a little and moved all the boxes and furniture that I wouldn't be needing for a while to the various closets (and den) that the new condo has. Then I went to bed. Yesterday morning I packed up more books and moved them over along with a lot of coats and such that could be put in yet another closet. Then I had to go to work.

By time I got home my siblings and my mom had patched the walls in the bedroom and got them ready to paint, took out the cabinets in the kitchen and started stripping the wallpaper from the kitchen, soon to be an office. When I got there I took out the shower doors (I have this weird fear of them) and the medicine cabinet and started stripping wallpaper in the bathroom. The stuff on the ceiling seems to be glued on or something, that part is going to be the worst. Soon [livejournal.com profile] f_o_n_y and [livejournal.com profile] soyouthink showed up and I had to show off my place. Then we decided to take off this weird bump out that covered what I knew once was a door between the two units. First we were just exploring, but then I got the crowbar and just took it out. On the new condos side it looks like they just sheet rocked right over the door after taking off the doorknob. So I now own a beautiful door that has been in a wall for 55 years. Oh, I know it has been 55 years because they had packed wallpaper in the wall too and they are all from November 1949. Those are very trippy and fun to read.

After cleaning up we went to Susie's and Wendy learn how funny/annoying my family can be.

Today? My brother Jens is taking the cabinets, my mom is going to prime the walls, strip wall paper and when I get home, I am painting my bedroom then working on that wallpaper in the bathroom.

So you now have a door that connects the two units? Sweet!! I'm really glad they didn't just rip it out. I'll bet it's a nice hardwood of some sort, too. Now you just need a vintage cut-glass door knob.

That door was walled in the year my mom was born. She would have been two months old in 11/49. :)

the doorknob was still on one side and the otherone was on the floor.

SCORE.

it is a nice oak door that still has a beautiful finish on it.

and funny, you should see the newspapers, I want to sit down and read them more fully soon.

Someone was really considerate when they walled that up. Cool. It would be nice to thank them, but they're probably long dead.
