graph of my friends

[livejournal.com profile] sacramentalist made me a map of my friends. i love stuff like this.

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You're very welcome!

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the absent graph, because you can see the clusters of people better.

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
For instance, if you look at my absent graph, you'll see the whole lower left are only MN/WI people.

http://www.stevecantsmell.com/~steve/graphs/sacramentalist_absent.png

I think that is very cool.

http://www.stevecantsmell.com/~steve/graphs/bertine_absent.png

it is cool. you can see the whole robotskull grouping, the friends of patrick and my sister friends.

then everyone else.

[identity profile] watashi-no-desu.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
but... I'm lower left. What's MN/WI???

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Minnesota/Wisconsin

There are a few strays. Like wi_c should be over there, but the graph algorithm positions the nodes (friends) based on the interconnections + a little randomness.

I so want to colourize it. Maybe it'll be my evening project.

[identity profile] watashi-no-desu.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, stick me down for UK colours then!!

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'll do

Windsor
UK
East Coast US
West Coast US
Midwest (a surprisingly large list)
Southern US

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
But I don't have any Australiasian friends!

Feel free to friend my whiney ass.

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
whiney ass added...now you have freind connections in NZ

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

soon everyone on my list will be connected to everyone else!

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to work out the six-degrees of bertine map...

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
good lord, that would be huge.

Re: 6 Degrees of B

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
lol

Re: 6 Degrees of B

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
does that mean you'd actully be bertine (hasn't) bin laden (a while), leader of the infamous organization known as

[برتينس] حالة حبّ حالة كره علاقة شبكة

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
sad but true, i'm a geek, and a dork, and I often wear white socks with black shoes...

Re: 6 Degrees of B

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
i always had a thing for black shoes with white socks.

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, but only if you promise to send me a postcard!

[identity profile] watashi-no-desu.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I absolutely swear and promise :)

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, the first is the interconnection with you in the graph
http://www.stevecantsmell.com/~steve/graphs/watashi_no_desu.png

This one interconnects all your friends without you in there:
http://www.stevecantsmell.com/~steve/graphs/watashi_no_desu_absent.png

[identity profile] watashi-no-desu.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is astounding, thank you!
How did you manage to do them so fast??

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The user [livejournal.com profile] _eman wrote the actual program that parses the LJ data to create the nodes to plot. I made a wrapper that iterates a username list to create plots of the data with and without each username.

If I want to add a person, I just add them to my list.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
that is so awesome!

[identity profile] sacramentalist.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wait. Maybe it was [livejournal.com profile] darxus

http://www.chaosreigns.com/code/

It was _eman who pointed it out.

[identity profile] phaedie.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
you lucky gal, this is very cool.

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
it rocks

[identity profile] watashi-no-desu.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought of this very icon today when talking to my personell manager.

[identity profile] ludomancer.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so isolated. :o

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
well, we don't have many friends in common!

SPEAKING OF FRAKY MAPS...

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Just received this one, it's actually quite an eye opener

Re: SPEAKING OF FRAKY MAPS...

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
that is totally disturbing!

Re: SPEAKING OF FRAKY MAPS...

[identity profile] sand-in-my-soap.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
the weird this is someone actually took the time to map that...hopefully it'll wake a few people up. Maybe I'll do a pie chart of W's time in office -vs- the time we've spent in one war or another....

Re: SPEAKING OF FRAKY MAPS...

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, that would be interesting to see.

[identity profile] heidi-13.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
this is very cool!
Mine would not be nearly so interesting

reminds me of a certain 'circle of sin'
Joey is still a hub...
hmmmmm...

[identity profile] bertine.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
i keep collecting people too.

actually i think about that 'circle of sin', a whole group of people i know would be interesting to map out. i am, thankfully, not a hub though i am tied into it.
